Artist Statement
ELPA는 중앙대학교의 사진 동아리였다. 사진과 전시 활동뿐 아니라, 뉴스레터와 잡지, 여러 형태의 인쇄물을 통해 동아리의 활동을 기록해왔다. 이 프로젝트는 그 자료들을 다시 모으고 재배열하며, 남겨진 기록을 다시 읽어보는 아카이빙 출판 작업이다.
시간이 지나면 기록은 쉽게 잊히고, 사라지거나 흩어진다. 그러나 이 인쇄물들은 그것을 만든 사람들의 흔적을 보존하고 있다. 그들이 무엇에 관심을 가졌는지, 어떤 고민을 했는지, 어떤 방식으로 사진을 바라보았는지가 그 안에 남아 있다. 남아 있는 자료들을 수집하고 다시 구성함으로써, 이 작업은 ELPA가 남긴 기록을 통해 그 역사를 되돌아본다.
책 안에서는 서로 다른 시기에 만들어진 사진, 글, 편집 디자인이 함께 놓인다. 각각의 인쇄물은 그 시대의 분위기를 반영하고 있으며, 하나의 책 안에 다시 배열되면서 과거와 현재 사이에 새로운 관계를 만든다.
이 출판물은 단순히 역사적 자료를 보존하는 데 그치지 않는다. 아카이브된 기록이 오늘날 어떻게 다시 읽히고 해석될 수 있는지를 고민한다. 자료를 다시 출판하고 재구성하는 과정을 통해, 이 프로젝트는 사진 공동체의 기억이 어떻게 인쇄물을 통해 지속될 수 있는지를 탐구한다.

ELPA was a photography club at Chung-Ang University. Alongside photographs and exhibitions, the club documented its activities through newsletters, magazines, and various printed publications. This project is an archival publication that reassembles and revisits those materials.
As time passes, records are often forgotten, lost, or dispersed. Yet these publications preserve traces of the people who made them—their interests, concerns, and ways of seeing. By collecting and reorganizing surviving issues, this work looks back at the history of ELPA through the records it left behind.
Within the book, photographs, texts, and editorial designs produced across different periods coexist. Each publication reflects the atmosphere of its time, while their arrangement within a single volume creates new relationships between past and present.
Rather than simply preserving historical materials, this publication considers how archival records can continue to be read and reinterpreted today. Through the act of republishing and reorganizing these documents, the project explores how the memory of a photographic community can persist through printed matter.
